Declining Morality Essay

Teen pregnancy is occurring everywhere. Profanity has greatly increased in the entertainment industry. Dances are becoming more vulgar and are teaching small children bad habits. Out-of-wedlock births now seem to be common and, therefore, less frowned upon than before. One of the most important challenges to humanity today is obviously our drastic decline in morality. Some may say our morals are even being completely redefined. At this rate, will our generation’s children grow up in an even worse environment than our current situation? One of the most influential causes for society’s decreasing morality is today’s music. Children as young as three years of age are learning such profane language from listening to lyrics without parental supervision and repeating them for their friends to hear. Drug and alcohol abuse, premarital sex, and violence are being especially promoted in current rap music. The dances associated with such songs also suggest these ideas. There should already be a limit to what youth are allowed to hear, and with lack of this supervision along with increasing vulgarity, kids are trying to grow up much too fast. This can connect to the increasing teen pregnancy rate. Marriage used to be morally required in order to reproduce and raise children. Out-of-wedlock births are becoming more popular. This can be linked to dysfunctional families and children being raised without both parents present. Therefore, the youth do not always receive the deserving attention and support needed to lead a successful life. Increasing divorce rates and custody battles also contribute to this issue. All in all, today’s youth are not thriving as they should be. Yet, this is not only effecting young people but also our society as a whole. Morality’s downfall has become an austere issue that must be addressed to the public. If failed to be brought to attention soon, the adolescents of today could possibly wreak havoc on later society.

The holes under the bamboo steamer are what cook the food inside of it in low pressure cooking. 3. Brief history of bamboo steam in Asia? The first bamboo steamer was developed in China where ovens are not a common sight. In Asian cuisine, as opposed to Western cuisine, rice, not bread is their staple, a nd therefore, the idea of using an oven is not a common one. As a substitute, to be able to cook their breads, they developed the steamer which is commonly used in cooking steamed cakes such as the siopao. 4. Healthy and Efficient Advantages of steamed food with a Bamboo Steamer As already stated earlier, the bamboo steamer can be stacked on top of one another making cooking large amounts of food more quickly to accomplish. It is also designed to fit in any wok and could also fit in pans so no special equipment is needed to use them. The bamboo also helps to absorb excess moisture to keep the food from becoming soggy and retains heat. Health benefits of cooking with a bamboo steamer include being able to cook the food without using any sort of fat, oils, or butter, retaining its healthy properties and appears fresh and vibrant, and its naturally antibacterial properties. 5.How to care for your bamboo steamer? In cleaning the bamboo steamer, mild soap should be used along with warm wa ter to prevent any damages. After washing, the bamboo steamer should be thoroughly drained and dried before it is put away to prevent molds from accumulating. Also, bamboo steamers should never be put in the dishwasher and as much as possible, direct food to steamer contact should be avoided (this can be done with the use of parchment paper or lettuce).Removing food bits that get stuck to the steamer should be removed with a nylon scrubber 6. LAW - Essay Example Therefore, Grapes & Vines Winery could have delivered the wine anytime before May 1, as the contract did not limit their duty to perform only on May 1. However, they chose to do it in the last possible day – May 1. The fact that the delivery van was involved in an accident does not constitute an objective impediment to performing the contract (destruction of the subject matter of the contract cannot be used as an excuse in this case), as the winery most certainly had in stock enough bottles of wine to deliver them later that day to Elin. This is a certain fact, as the bottles were delivered in the afternoon of May 2. Moreover, immediately after the accident, the company should have called Elin and ask her if she would agree to a delivery of the bottles later that day or maybe on May 2. This would have solved the problem and avoid the unpleasant situation. Therefore, the Court should discharge the contract due to its material alteration and failure to substantially perform on b ehalf of the plaintiff (Grapes & Vines Winery). In this case, Elin’s contractual obligations would be also discharged and her not accepting the plaintiff’s tender later than the due date should not be considered as breach of contract. 2. I believe that in this case, time is not of the essence of the contract.

How did Julius Caesar affect Rome Research Paper

How did Julius Caesar affect Rome - Research Paper Example This allowed Caeser to have an immense number of supporters during his leadership in Rome. From Inter-Connect Universe (2011), Caesar was involved in the renovation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. Caeser went ahead and transformed Italy into one province thereby linking all the provinces to one central province. However, the prize was no longer the opportunity to further advance one’s career through even more illustrious service to Rome ; it was, instead, the power to make Rome accept the terms on which one justified one’s power (Griffin M, 205). Through this problem, of social wars that was present several years back was addressed. Individuals who were non Romans were able to get full citizenship and become Romans. Only when once power became concentrated under one man did concern for Rome’s overall urban image begin to be addressed (Galinsky, 235). Caeser appointed new senators who became subservient to him. Caeser realized that the republican institutions no longer operated effectively, and that only strong and enlightened leadership could permanently end the civil warfare destroying Rome (Perry M. 86). This minimized the effects of getting political challenge in Rome. What happens to Rome and the Romans in Julius Caeser, is that in the very process by which they are brought close to an apprehension in modernity, any proximity that may be established with them may be established with them disappears in a burgeoning complexity (Melehy 225). By passing the law to allow him to install consuls and magistrates, he appointed magistrates who became his representative and not representing the Romans, and he was able to dictate to the entire Rome. Bamber (1) in his journal contended that Caesars triumph in Rome surpassed all the others. Despite the hostility of his enemies, Caeser remained

Racism and Discrimination - Essay Example When they come to the realization that they had been suppressed and oppressed, and their own individual human rights and those of the race are very adversely affected and endangered, they feel isolated from the society. As a result they long for a cultural identity for the blacks in America. Thus many Afro-American writers have tried to instill black racial pride in the minds of regress. The Harlem Renaissance and the civil rights movement of the 1950s played major roles in this change of outlook. Langston Hughes strongly believed that the educated black elite should lead blacks to liberation. Most of his poems exhort the readers to be proved of one’s black identity and raise one’s voice against any sort of injustice: â€Å"In poem ‘Theme for English B,’ by Langston Hughes, Hughes talks about the African American struggle of equality. This is a common subject for Hughes. In many of his poems, he speaks about blacks and the injustice that they face.† (Theme for English B; Hunnie 522-2006. Planet Papers). Hughes stressed the importance of a racial consciousness and cultural rationalism and encouraged blacks to take pride in their own diverse black folk culture and black aesthetics. The poem â€Å"The Theme for English B,† expresses Hughes’ experience as the only African American in an all white composition class in the 1920s. His English instruction asks him to write a poem and remarks â€Å"And let that page come out of you†¦ Then, it will be true.† This makes the poet to think of his black ideality and he expresses the blacks’ desire to eat, sleep and be in love just like the white man. He is afraid that because he is black, his writings would be discarded as mere blackish babblings: â€Å"I guess being colored doesn’t make me NOT like the same things other folks like who are other races. So will my page be colored that I write?† (Hughes, Langston. â€Å"Themes for English

Psychiatric Nursing - Essay Example Furthermore, this study attempts to categorize certain â€Å"life events† by their triggering mechanism. Naturally, to each patient, the triggering mechanism will be different; however, by analyzing the association between adverse life events and relapses in a number of individuals with schizophrenia, the authors were able to specifically link certain causal factors with relapses. Lastly, the authors note that a noted increase in what they term â€Å"moderately severe† life events can also lead to a noted increase in psychotic symptoms for the patient. This journal article studies ways in which to develop guidelines for nursing care professionals dealing with suicidal schizophrenics. Due to the high number of attempted suicides within this demographic, mental health professionals require expert direction on how to confront suicidal nature in patients and in what ways to best administer to their needs; all the while ensuring patient safety. Institutions should perform affirmative action Research Paper

Institutions should perform affirmative action - Research Paper Example Before I get you to believe in affirmative action, it is very prudent to look at the historical background of the term â€Å"Affirmative Action†, I think by that, we will get to appreciate the initiator of the word, and then emulate the sense of humanity, which drove them into coming up with the word or rather a phrase, this word was used first in United States and was signed by President John F Kennedy, he used it to promote activities that promoted non- discrimination, in conjunction to this, president Lyndon B. Johnson emulated the same by encouraging his human resource managers to hire workers indiscriminate of their race, national origin or religion. So who are we to defy the activities of this most important people and after all, would you like it, if you get disqualified from a job/ or attending an interview/ or even attending a learning institution just because of your color, or race, or origin, I guess no rational human being would buy the idea, well! But why, it is mainly because we do not admire to be discriminated. So why am I insisting on introduction of this practice in learning institution? Well, I might say that a part from promoting equal opportunity amongst students, it brings about national development, you will concur with me that, some things would not have happened, if certain people could have been denied the chance and opportunity, because of either their origin or race, Take an example, if Americans could have been against Affirmative actions, then who knows, do you think, Mr. Obama could have been the president? Most likely he would not have, but the Americans gave Obama equal chance to study with other Americans in the same schools, same university, despite the fact that he was An Afro-American tracing his origin, to an African country Kenya, where his father was born. No one would be as adamant as to deny the fact that this was a national development. Or would we

The Prophet Muhammad Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

The Prophet Muhammad - Essay Example Muhammad’s Uncle took and grandfather took care of Muhammad. As a young child, Attwell insists that Muhammad usually suffered from seizure fits. During the fits, Muhammad mentioned receiving voices from heaven and heavenly visions (Attwell, 2007). Attwell prescribes some tribes described the young boy, Muhammad, as demon-possessed (2007). Growing up, Muhammad learned the teachings of the Jewish religion and the Christian Church. Consequently, some of the two religions’ teachings were incorporated in the Koran. The Koran teaches that Jesus Christ is a prophet, just like Moses. Growing up, Muhammad prayed to 350 various gods, including the Moon God, Al-lah. The author proposes that Muhammad’s knowledge of Jewish and Christian teachings of the Angel Gabriel visit (Attwell, 2007). Consequently, Prophet Muhammad espoused that Angel Gabriel visited him in Mount Hira, after marrying the 40 year old wealthy widow, Khadijah. Confused about receiving visions, Khadijah and his relatives convinced Muhammad that they were real visions. The author, insist that this situation casts doubts on authenticity as a prophet (Attwell, 2007). Gahl Eden Sasson insists Muhammad insists he quarreled with Angel Gabriel when he was instructed to recite and surrender to the will of God (2008). However, Angel Gabriel â€Å"the angel overwhelmed me in his embrace until he had reached the limits of my endurance. It took a bear hug and some wrestling moves o the part of the archangel to get the Aries (Muhammad) to submit to God’s will (Sasson, 2008 p.124).† Muhammad also mentions that he met Adam in the first heaven and Jesus and John the Baptist in the second heaven, when Angel Gabriel brought him to visit heaven (Spencer, 2007). In fact, Lionel Attwill’s biased resolution indicates Muhammad’s unstable and mentally disturbed condition, magnified by his continued fasting and meditation to receive visions is reminiscent of schizoid delusions (Attw ell, 2007). The author insists that the scripture depicts Angel Gabriel as reassuring Mirriyam, mother of Yahsua by telling her â€Å"Hail, O woman richly blessed The Yahweh is with you. Do not be afraid for you have found favor with Yahweh† (Attwell, 2007; p. 260). The author insists that Angel Gabriel never hugged or squeeze the lady until she thought she was going to die and leaving her cold and doubting her vision and eager to take her own life, because of the Angel Gabriel visit. Being an illiterate all his life, the author insists that Muhammad did not write the Koran (Attwell, 2007). After Muhammad’s death, his followers wrote the Koran from memory and hearsay. The author further states that the Koran verse stating Muhammad was â€Å"escorted to the seven heavens on a white horse to the temple mount in Jerusalem is a myth without any evidence (Attwell, 2007, p.261)†. Likewise, the author insists that Muhammad assimilated prayer to Allah, the pagan religio n’s moon god, into the Islam religion. The author further states that there is no record of Muhammad curing the sick, saving the sight of the blind people, casting out demons, or any other miracles, like the other prophets mentioned in Christian and Jewish scriptures, including Jesus and Moses. Further, Goldschmidt proposed Muhammad was a liar. Initially, he instructed all Muslims to avoid praying to idols or images. However, to gain the favor of the current Meccan leaders, Muhammad made a 180 degree religious policy shift. To espouse increasing the spread of the

Of Mice & Men - Character Analysis Essay Example for Free

Of Mice Men Character Analysis Essay During chapter two of the novel Of Mice and Men, we are introduced to another six different characters as George and Lennie begin work on a farm. These characters are the boss, his son, Curley and Curleys wife, and the other itinerants Candy, Slim and Carlson. The first of these characters that we meet is Candy. Candy Is introduced as an old man with a physical disability. Out of the sleeve came a round stick-like wrist, but no hand. His physical description shows that he cannot work on a farm, and we find out later that he has been demoted to a cleaner. Candys behaviour and the way he speaks links to each other. At first he seems a bit hostile towards George and Lennie as he doesnt really welcome them. He then starts to talk to them properly and tells them about the ranch. Candy doesnt really have any moral values. When he talks about the way the black stable buck is beaten up by the boss, instead of expressing concern he laughs and jokes about it. This shows that he is very biased. George and Lennie and Candy get on right from the start, but George is very angry after the interview when Candy eavesdrops on a conversation between George and Lennie. Candy is a very lonely man with no family. The only thing of significance to him is his dog, who is very much in parallel to him. The dog is very old and half-blind. Both are disabled and near the end of their working life. We learn a few things about the boss when Candy is telling George and Lennie about him. The first thing that Candy says about the boss is that he was very angry about them being late. Wheres the hell them new men? He always takes all of his anger out on the nigger, showing that he is racist. The stable buck, Crooks, even has a crooked back which he got from being kicked by a horse. Despite all of this anger, Candy goes on say how nice the boss is and about the Christmas where he bought a gallon of whiskey for the workers. Hes a pretty nice fellow, but he also Gets pretty mad sometimes. We then meet the boss who stepped into the room. As expected the boss is already angry about George and Lennie being late, but he is already suspicious. This is because George doesnt let Lennie speak and the boss assumes that there is something dodgy going on. The boss accuses George of stealing Lennies wages. You taking his pay away from him? The boss is paranoid and doesnt really believe in friendshi p. He is very suspicious about them and asks George questions, forcing him to lie, Hes mycousin. The tone of voice that is used throughout the interview is angry and suspicious. He is angry at George and Lennie for being late and suspicious about Georges behaviour. The next character is the bosss son, Curley. Curley is described as A little stocky man. The clothes that he wears remind us of a typical cowboy. blue jean trousers, a flannel shirt, a black, unbuttoned vest and a black coat. His thumbs were stuck in his belt, on each side of a square steel buckle. This shows us that he is not a labouring man and has a higher status. This is also shown by the fact that he stands confidently and arrogantly. He is broad, short and stocky, but also powerful. When George and Lennie meet Curley for the first time they immediately make an enemy. Right from the beginning Curley gives them a hostile reception when he walks him. He glanced coldly at George and then at Lennie. For some reason he seems to be looking for a fight, his hands closed into fists. Curley seems to have a problem with Lennie. Curley is very small and not like a normal man and is jealous of Lennie he sees Lennie as a threat. Lennie is huge and muscular, but Curley is small and stocky. Even though he symbolises a higher status he is morally and physically stunted. Curley is very violent for a small man and can be compared to George, as he is a worse version of George (George is tamed my Lennie. Of all the characters we have met so far most of them are physically or mentally disabled. Curley is very small and unman-like, Crooks has a crooked back, Candy only has one hand and Lennie is mentally disabled. Steinbeck is trying to show that even though America is the land of dreams, these people have been damaged by America. Crooks is also the target of racism. Even George is damaged by America as he has failed in life. Candy is the first person to talk about Curleys wife, who describes her as a tart. George and Lennie meet her for the first time when she is supposedly looking for Curley in the bunkhouse. We cannot say that this is the real reason because Curley would not be there and she would have seen Curley go home. This shows that she may be a lonely person, or may have gone there to flirt with some of the men. However, her behaviour doesnt seem flirtatious. Im trying to find Curley, Slim, shows us that she is not coming on to Slim, but her physical appearance says that she is. The use of red imagery symbolises danger, and Curleys wife is full of make-up that is red, rouged lips and wide-spaced eyes, heavily made-up. Her finger nails were red. Not only is her make-up red, but so are her clothes, red muleslittle bouquets of red ostrich feathers. She is a scarlet and loose. She likes showing herself off and is not used to farm life, so she dresses quite provocatively. She is a femme fatale because Lennie is attracted to red. This links back to the woman in Weed who had a red dress. This woman is a danger to Lennie, and also to George and Lennies jobs. Lennie watched her, fascinated. Slim is the most respected man on the farm. He is described as a tall man who was well-built and strong. He is not crippled in any way like some of the other characters. Slim is a master-craftsmen He was well respected and revered by everyone on the farm and everyone would look up to him and follow him, giving him authority over everyone else. Slim is very serious and intelligent and the prince of the ranch. This shows that everyone looks to him for guidance. His voice was very gentle. Slim doesnt need to shout to get attention and respect, unlike Curley, who needs to fight and threaten. Slim can even hear things before people say something. Slim seems God-like and unrealistic because Steinbeck shows him as too perfect. He is an omnipotent who is idealised and no one is like him. Slim is used as a moral yardstick to measure everyone else. He welcomes George and Lennie to the ranch. He does this in a friendly and gentle way. His tone was friendly. It invited confidence without demanding it. He is not suspicious like the boss and believes in friends travelling together. He doesnt seem hostile and gives George and Lennie a welcoming atmosphere and understands that George and Lennie look out for each other. George is also given the confidence to open up to George and reveal his true feelings about Lennie. George is able to trust Slim and knows that he will understand and not tell anyone. Carlson seems like a nice person from the start and by the way he welcomes George and Lennie. Glad to meet ya. Like Slim, he Carlson is described as a powerful, big-stomached man. He shows his respect to Slim and lets Slim go first. Carlson stepped back to let Slim precede him. However, we then find out that he is very insensitive. He begins a conversation about Slims dog and then talks about wanting to kill Candys dog. That dog of Candys is so God-damn old he cant hardly walk. Stinks like hell, tooWhynt you get Candy to shoot his old dog. Carlson wants to kill Candys dog because he is too old and smells and is a nuisance. This is very insensitive.

Among these are the Urbi et Orbi  radio message, John Paul IIs historic embrace of Cardinal  WyszyÅ„ski, the visits  to the Shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Mentorella, Rome and to  Assisi  to venerate the tomb of St. Francis, patron of Italy, and to the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva to venerate the tomb of St. Catherine, patroness of Italy, The preceding year of his papacy and the years after it, Pope John Paul II simply inspired the whole Catholic community with his leadership. In 1979, the Pope accepted the request made by  Argentina  and  Chile  for the Holy See’s mediation in solving the controversy that was on going between the two nations. He also made the Pastoral Visit to  Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic, to Mexico  for the Third General Conference of the Latin American Bishops and the Bahamas  on January 25th to February 1st 1979 for his 1st Apostolic Voyage. (Pontificate, 2005) This voyage was succeeded by the second, third and fourth, all happening in the same year, 1979. These were the visits or voyages to Poland in June, in  Ireland, the U.N.  and the  United States of America  in September and in Turkey in November. During his voyage to his homeland, he had a very specific message to his countrymen. â€Å"The popes letter on the purpose of his visit, in which he stressed that he hoped to serve the unity of the Poles. (Hebblethwaite 3) During the 1980s, among the outstanding activities of Pope John Paul II involve Pastoral Voyages to  Zaire, Republic of Congo, Kenya, Ghana, Upper Volta  and  Ivory Coast, France, Brazil, and West Germany. His pastoral visit to Naples, Potenza, Balvano  and  Avellino was made after the earthquake. The apostolic voyages, which obviously result to greater acceptance among the Catholics of the respective visited nations, also serve as reminders to each and every one to restore their faith and be better followers of God. The pope never missed in reinstating this message anywhere he visits. At the year 1980 was ending the pope made his Apostolic Letter  Egregiae virtutis  in which he proclaimed Sts. Cyril and Methodius, together with St. Benedict, Patrons of Europe. As the leader, teacher and model of millions of Catholic followers, John Paul II made and performed his papal responsibilities dutifully. The Popes 1988 encyclical,  Sollicitudo Rei Socialis,  which is about social justice threading a middle ground between the sides of capitalists and socialists and putting arguments on both economic developments and placing the needs of those millions of poors over the wants of the selected wealthy. This Sollicitudo Rei Socialis is in fact believed to be â€Å"one of his most substantial documents.† (John Paul II) A new catechism was approved by Pope John Paul II in 1992. This contained comprehensive statements of devotion meant to unify the entire Catholic It was in October of this year when the Pope was able to publish a large encyclical on moral issues fairly â€Å"inspired by the pedophilia or the sexual attraction of adults to children crisis† (John Paul II) that was rampant in the United States. It was called Veritatis Splendor  or The Resplendence of Truth. In 1994 the Pope was with the Special Assembly for Africa  of the Synod of Bishops on the theme:† The Church in Africa and Her Evangelizing Mission Towards the Year 2000: You Shall Be My Witnesses. On that same year however, on the month of April the Pope had an accidental fall on the evening of the 28th causing a fracture on his right femur. Thereafter the Holy Father recovered at the Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital and undergone an operation and was hospitalized until the 27th of May. (Pontificate, 2005) Fulfilling the promise of his apostolic letter  Tertio Millennio adveniente  (As the Third Millennium Draws Near, 1994 the pope entered the year 2000, which he greeted by a proclamation of this year as the year of the Great Jubilee.   The Pope carried on this year â€Å"with a series of epoch-making activities calling for dialogue and brotherhood among the faiths.† (Pope John Paul) In February of the new millennium, John Paul II was the first pope to make a visit to Egypt, where he celebrated a mass in Cairo, stirring on discrimination against Christians in Egypt and other countries of Africa. On March 12, 2000, the pope also asked for forgiveness for many of the Catholic Churchs past sins, such as its treatment of Jews, heretics, women, and native peoples. â€Å"This was believed to be the first time in the history of the Catholic Church that one of its leaders sought such a sweeping pardon.† (John Paul II Biography) In the beginning of 2004, the Pope made his appeal to everyone regarding World Peace. â€Å"All of you, hear the humble appeal of the Successor of Peter who cries out: today too, at the beginning of the New Year 2004,  peace remains possible. And if peace is possible,  it is also a duty!†(John Paul II, 2004) A year before his death, Pope John Paul II was conferred the  International Charlemagne Prize, a prestigious award given annually by the city of Aachen, Germany, in recognition â€Å"of the Pope’s personal commitment, and that of the Holy See, in favor of unity among the peoples of Europe on the basis of the values rooted in the common human nature and efficaciously promoted by Christianity† (Pontificate, 2005) On February, at least a month before his death the Memory and Identity was published. This book was all about the Pope John Paul II, his life, and his legacy to the world. With his great contribution to the Catholic Church and in humanity in general, Pope John Paul II died in Vatican on April 2, 2005 at 9:37 in the evening. He was a great pope, leader, teacher and a person who gave much inspiration and teachings to his followers.

The relationship between occupation and health

The relationship between occupation and health Discuss the relationship between occupation and health, and recognise factors which facilitate occupational performance. In the context of this essay â€Å"occupation† is taken to encompass care of self, leisure and employment (American Occupational Therapy Association: Uniform Terminology, 1994) whereby the person interacts with the environment. These areas are not mutually exclusive. It is the â€Å"ordinary and familiar things that people do every day† (American Occupational Therapy Association Commission on Practice Home Health Task Force: Guidelines, 1995). Performance components include the necessary skills for the task and the temporal and environmental performance context. Occupational performance is important; people identify who they are by what they do. Relation between occupation and healthOccupation is important in maintaining health but certain occupations may actually cause ill health. Ill health may lower occupational performance. The relationship is further complicated by poor performance contributing to ill health which further lowers performance. An example would be someone performing poorly in paid employment and becoming depressed as an indirect result (perhaps because of redeployment) and performing even more poorly as a result of the depression. A goal of occupational therapy is to use appropriate occupation therapeutically to counteract the effects of disability and to promote well being. The effect of some disease processes on performance will now be explored. Certain pathological conditions will have a typical effect on performance for instance a cerebrovascular accident, a not uncommon cause of occupational dysfunction, will affect sensation and motor skills in a fairly predictable way. The degree of impairment is variable depending on the aetiology, severity and location of the cerebral injury. The effects may be profound. Laterality is important since one side of the brain has a major impact on language and the other motor skills. Which side of the brain is dominant for various functions depends on whether or not the individual is right handed. Occupational performance is affected by sensorimotor deficit and subsequent musculosketal affects for instance significant sensorimotor deficit commonly affects the shoulder joint with its innate dependence on good muscular tone of the rotator cuff from which the joint largely derives its stability. Disruption of cognitive function and emotional liability are factors commonly involved in severe cerebrovascular accidents to the further detriment of performance. Of the musculoskeletal group of disorders Rheumatoid arthritis is important since it is so common. In addition to affecting movement by joint deformity, sensorineural and neuromuscular effects the individual may suffer psychological effects such as depression further limiting performance (Deyo 1982). Temporal effects are important in this condition, typically the symptoms and performance being significantly worse in the morning and improving as the day progresses. Schizophrenia is an example of a psychiatric illness which can become chronic and disabling. The effects on occupational performance can get really complex here. Not only are there varying manifestations of the illness with exacerbations sometimes accompanied by ultimate deterioration over time but there is often effects of the medication, substance abuse and disordered living arrangements. Chronic pain may affect occupational performance by limitation of physical components of the activity in question. Some conditions appear resistant to clear diagnosis. For instance following accidents such as whiplash or back pain following lifting during paid employment there may be long drawn out background litigation and this coupled with difficulties returning to work may have significant effects on occupational performance. Because affected individuals may be young, in paid employment and with families to look after despite the fact that the physical disability may be relatively minor there may be major effects on the activities of daily living, leisure and employment. Factors facilitating performanceOccupational performance can be split into a number of components: sensorimotor, cognitive integration, cognitive, psychosocial and psychological. In addition the performance cannot be taken out of context. The individual’s personal characteristics will affect quality of performance. There must be a good fit between the individual’s knowledge, skills and attitudes, the task must be appropriate, contributing to well-being and the environment must be conducive with regard to physical, cultural and social aspects; (Hagedorn, 2001). Context is important (Dunn 1994) for instance it is easy to speak with friends but public speaking is another matter entirely performance nearly always suffering substantially and yet the basics of the task are the same. The following factors are associated with occupational dysfunction (Hogedorn, 2001) thus their avoidance may enhance performance: Deprivation of occupation Occupation alienation (the task seeming pointless) Occupational imbalance focussing on one aspect to the exclusion of others Difficulties with relationships and participation Lack of resources Negative self-image; expectation or fear of failure Poor ability to adapt to different roles The performance itself may be adequate in its component parts but be poor overall since it takes too long to complete. Ottenbacher describes in Crepeau, 2003 to optimise performance requires an appreciation of the dicstinctions between body systems, impairment, activity and participation defined by the WHO 2001. To facilitate performance various compensation mechanisms can be utilised. Training in compensatory movements can occur alongside provision of adaptative equipment and environmental adaptation. An enhancing factor is the purpose and meaning of the task for the participant. This is to the extent that intervention will be more effective in achieving the desired improvement or other goal if the individual is active in setting the goal at the onset. Goal directed action and pure exercise showed the advantage of the former for retaraining movement following stroke (Trombly, 1999). Full utilisation can be made of the inherent adaptatbility of human beharioural (both physical and psychological) mechanisms. The ability to learn and improve occupational performance is improved by practice, repitition and feedback at an appropriate rate. In providing occupational therapy care it is important to appreciate the state at which the individual is at; acute and not stabilised, inpatient, outpatient, extended (Crepeau, 2003). It is important to look at the overall task and its purpose before concentration on the components of the activity. Evidence base is accumulating and should guide the interventional approach chosen. ConclusionOccupational health promotes well-being from engaging individuals in relevant occupation. Improving the underlying capacities of sensorimotor skills, memory and mental outlook is only part of the whole process of facilitation of occupational performance. Flame of Hope :: Description Essays

Flame of Hope I was walking along Michigan Ave., in Grant Park, when I saw it across the street. I couldn’t take my eyes off it. It was a sculpture entitled Flame of Hope, by Leonardo Nierman. I know I’ve passed by this sculpture before, but I never really paid any attention to it. I don’t know why, but it caught my eye today. Maybe it was the break in the buildings, or the way the sun was reflecting off of it, but for whatever reason I was fixated. The sculpture is in between three buildings, right next to another sculpture. It seems as though the sculptures were placed there to give the people of Chicago something to look at other than buildings. The sculpture is made of shiny, silver, metal and has a very smooth surface. Because of the time of day and the way the sun has been reflecting off the sculpture, its surface is hot to touch. Some parts are hidden from the sun though, and no matter how hard the sun tries, it will never reach those areas. It’s like an unending game of tag where the sun is always it. Standing next to the sculpture, I’m reminded of how little I actually am. It’s a very humbling experience whenever one realizes how little a person really is when compared to the big picture. For some reason, that’s the feeling I got as I looked up at this shiny piece of metal. The flame is made up of several distorted shapes, both large and small, but in some way, they all fit together, like a j igsaw puzzle. All the shapes are not connected though, and there are places where you can look through and see the sky. It’s as if someone took a picture, and for one brief moment, the sky is frozen in time. There are so many angles and curves to this sculpture. It looks as though it's in continual motion; it intertwines within itself. Depending on where you stand, it can take on different shapes and personalities. From across the street, I could see a dancer. Her arms and legs flailing about to the ever-changing beat of the music that has captured her soul. The beautiful dancer is in continual movement; never stopping for a breath, she just keeps dancing. In between the buildings she moves, allowing anyone who wants to stop, to enjoy the show. Christian Dating & Marriage Customs Essay

For Christians, searching for a lifetime partner is not an easy task, but if it is done properly and patiently, it can be very rewarding. Partners are sought after, of course, within the limited pool of Christianity. Often potential dates arise from acquaintances within the same church that men and women regularly visit. They may becomes friends later as a result of being actively involved in church activities, whether as volunteers during Sunday services, such as in the choir or Sunday school, or as outreach volunteers working to help the community. However, stronger ties bind two people together when they spend more time in situations that are challenging. Thus, for Christians, dating in a movie theatre is not recommended. Instead, spending time together serving the homeless in a shelter, for example, will be more productive in getting to know each other and building rapport. Once a couple is ready to get married, they will celebrate their union with spiritual rituals and customs during the wedding day. The seating of parents and grandparents as honored guests come first during the ceremony. Then it is followed by the Bridal Processional where the Minister, Groom, Bridesmaids, Groomsmen, Maid of Honor, Best Man, Flower Girl and Ring Bearer slowly enter. The Bride, together with her father, then marches in. Next, the minister leads the Call to Worship and Opening Prayer. The parents then give the Bride away and a Worship Song follows while the wedding couple moves to the stage and the Ring Bearer and Flower Girl sit together with their parents. The couple then proclaims their promises through the Charge, the Pledge and Wedding Vows. The rings are then exchanged and the Lighting of the Unity Candle comes next. Finally, through the Pronouncement, the couple is officially wed. They kiss and are presented by the Minister. Communion and a Closing Prayer may also be included before the Recessional, where the participants exit the stage, Groom and Bride first, followed by the Best Man and Maid of Honor, the Groomsmen and Bridesmaids, and the Ring Bearer and Flower Girl (Fairchild 2010). As Nature Made Him: Nature vs. Nurture Essay

The job over personality vs. enkindle has continued to torture society by show uping nerves in which we simply hold outt populate which rules to apply. One of these bailiwicks is informality miscellany. grammatical gender change is a in truth ample step to take in a persons life and it involves the scrupulous get hold ofation of many an(prenominal) constituents exclusively it is non a simple wait on to a complex problem such as hermaphroditism or nevertheless color circumcisions. These choices can be difficult because we dont quite understand which factors to consider given that we havent firm whether it is personality or hold dear that determines a childs informal identity.Until we clear up this riddle, people shouldnt try to change a childs sex before the child can retrace his or her induce sexual identity. temper exit solve the problem without adult male interference. Over the years, sex change in infants with ambiguous or deformed crotch has becom e more and more popular. a good deal times, however, the child is un halcyon with his/her sexual assignment. Colapinto writes, Dr. chafe Benjamin himself, who had recently reported that in forty-s as yet out of eighty-seen of his patients, he could amaze no evidence that childhood teach was involved in their conviction that they were bread and butter in the wrong sex (Colapinto 45).This suggests that nature rather than confirm is the underlying factor of sexual identity. Dr. toilette Money, a determine at John Hopkins Hospital, was the head pay false of the world famous John/Joan couple on baptistry. His theories at the time seemed to be very intelligently thought out at the time, but have now been proven otherwise, explaining why his conduction of the twin type was unsuccessful. John Colapinto explains that Dr.Money realized in his research on hermaphroditical children, the ones that were raise as girlfriends were happy girls, and the ones raised as boys were happy boys It seemed to suggest to him that hermaphrodites were born(p) m aloneeable in their sex (Youtube). However, Money was also bustling to generalize this observation to everyone, rather than only. Although the mischievously unsuccessful twin elusion was and is brought up a lot in the get by concerning nature vs. nurture, there are remedy scientists who believe that it is nurture rather than nature that determines sexual identity. These scientists still have apply that there may be an answer to the mystery of sexual identity. Jonis Portfolio says on gender, It is an intricate balance between hormones, brain function, attitudes, behaviors, and loving expectations (Jonis Portfolio). Colapinto as well as the authors of Jonis Portfolio reference point how vehemently was she firm to live in the sex of her genes and chromosomes (Colapinto 72). Children who are born norm all(prenominal)y, but have been sexually reassigned, usually present behaviors that resemble the sex written in their genetic code. The few exceptions remain outliers. at once scientists started to poke holes in Dr. Moneys theories, they realized how unreasonable it was to try to sexually reassign a children who were already bound by nature to be a certain gender. Jonis says, Gender identification is a complex cut (Jonis Portfolio). Scientists try likewise hard to try to find a solution to this problem that they are too quick to draw conclusions and make decisions. Colapinto writes that the sunrise(prenominal) York Times keep back review on Man vs. Woman Boy vs. missy said the restrains argument was If you tell a boy he is a girl, and raise him as one, he will want to do maidenly things (Colapinto 70). Man vs. Woman Boy vs. fille is a book written by Dr. Money. Money drew so many false conclusions in his work that his theories were unreliable. However, he was such a respected get wind in the science world that even his most outlandish views were supported by many. This is how his theories came to be so widely accepted. We hunch now, however, that he was pretty far off the mark in his line of research. We know now that gender assignment should be left to nature, rather than nurture, especially was no problem with the natural gender to gravel with. Too often, children have been burdened with the trade union movement of finding themselves, i. e. discovering their sexual identity. If doctors and scientists continue to gravel childrens lives by attempting to change who these children were doom to be, they will definitely start to fall behind themselves. This is ultimately what happened in the John/Joan case where David Reimer, which was John/Joans real name, when he took his own life.Nurture may be a factor in sexual identity, but research suggests that nature is an even stronger factor. Scientists and doctors shouldnt interfere with nature because all in all, this single factor will shine through the cracks. Bibliography Colapinto, John. Economics Commentary: Macroeconomics Essay

Economics Commentary: Macroeconomics Essay

Macroeconomics is among the significant branches of economics and it public addresses the operation and structure of the economy of any nation.Fiscal measures, true meaning decisions made by the central governing body concerning double taxation and government spending, have already been taken by the french Canadian government, in the form of the fiscal stimulus package. This package has in it $12B in infrastructure spending, $7.8B meant to stimulate construction firms, $8.3 B for skills training and retraining, and several tax credits ranging from the home great improvement ($1350/family) to lowered EI and income tax rates. Its a same topic to write a research paper on.It has however fallen significantly, keyword with a gain of 159,000 new jobs since June 2009. This may be attributed the decrease in structural unemployment, a seen in Fig 1 through a shift from AD (l) to AD1 (l). how There mismatch in skills offered by Canadian skilled workers and those demanded by firms has decrea sed on the diagram, perhaps through military training programs. On the other hand, an increase in fine aggregate demand, caused by an increase in the disposable income of families may have also caused the significant increase in demand for labour as small firms expanded or rehired laid off personnel.

Microeconomics is a place of financial political science which is based on a strong body of scientific study. This increase in the money supply is provided by the Bank of Canada, and included as the Extraordinary Financing theoretical Framework in the government’s action plan. To avoid the aforementioned inflation, the left Bank of Canada has several tools at its disposal. Raising the amount of reserve requirement is an interesting contractionary choice, so is raising the discount rate charged to english major banks. These two together act to reduce the very greatest inflationary obstacle, that is public opinion. They answer one important question from a choice of two.Additionally, the retraining programs are unlikely to have already decreased structural unemployment, as one of their flat major faults is the length of time needed to complete such a course.
